Weather Warning

Rains of moderate to strong intensity in the South and Central Pacific for the afternoon and night of today, Sunday

October 23, 2022
11:30 a.m.

Diagnosis: The increase in regional instability of the upper atmosphere, a higher and better structured moisture content added to local conditions, will be favoring precipitation for the afternoon and evening of today, Sunday.

Forecast: Again in the afternoon and early hours of the night, it will be the Central Pacific and South Pacific regions that will present downpours accompanied by scattered storms, which locally can be of strong intensity. The amounts accumulated in 12 hours are estimated between 35-60 mm and punctual maximums of up to 110 mm.

The Central Valley will present scattered rains that can extend into the early hours of the night, with amounts between 10-45 mm. In the North Pacific, over the Nicoya Peninsula and Gulf, there will be showers accompanied by electrical storms, with estimated amounts between 20 - 40 mm with local maximums of 70 mm.

The Caribbean regions will also present scattered showers with thunderstorms in the afternoon, while for the North Zone the showers will be more isolated and towards the center and west of the region. The estimated amounts for both regions will be between 25 – 45 mm with specific maximums of 60 mm.

Warning: The soils saturated by the rains of this Saturday and during the morning of this Sunday, are present in: the low parts and sectors on the Nicoya Peninsula, the mountainous regions of the South Pacific, Central Pacific, as well as on the Osa Peninsula.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible sudden flooding.

• Prevention before an electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.

• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr.
