8 de setiembre de 2021
Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains active and close to the national territory, generating a significant contribution of humidity and instability, which, added to local conditions such as morning warming and entry of sea breezes, will lead to rainy events this afternoon and early evening. strong and thunderstorm.
Forecast: During this afternoon and first hours of the night, heavy rains and downpours with a thunderstorm are expected in the Central Valley, North Zone and Pacific regions. They are estimated accumulated between 30-70 mm in 6 hours, possible higher amounts in a localized way. In regions of the Caribbean, the rains will be limited to the mountainous and surrounding areas, accumulating between 10-45 mm in periods of 6 hours.
The latest analyzes indicate that in the next 3 days there will continue to be heavy rainy episodes, which can generate accumulated over 100 mm in a specific way, being in regions of the Pacific where the probability is higher.
Warning: Due to recent rains, high levels of soil saturation are maintained in the South Pacific, the coasts of the Central Pacific, the North Zone, the Nicoya Peninsula and the Central Valley, which can generate a rapid increase in the flow of rivers and in unstable areas with high propensity to landslides.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution for sewer saturation and possible flash floods in the North Zone, as well as in the Pacific, Central Valley.
- Prevention against thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind present or perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
