Meteorological Warning-IMN-120920-Rainfall in the night period
Rainfall in the night period
September 12, 2020
Diagnosis: The Intertropical Convergence Zone has remained very close to the country all day, which, added to disturbances in the upper atmosphere and local factors, such as warm morning temperatures, the constant entry of sea breezes from early hours, have favored heavy rainy activity this Saturday.
In the evening period, there have been stormy downpours in all regions of the Pacific with amounts between 20-90mm, Central Valley between 10-40mm with maximum points of 50mm, North Zone between 15-45mm and Caribbean mountains 5-35mm with very specific maximums in Turrialba 65mm, Guayabo National Monument 85mm and 63mm in Horquetas.
Forecast: It is estimated that the precipitations will extend in the night period in the Pacific especially in the coastal sectors, in addition to the mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, projecting accumulated between 10-60 mm with possible higher amounts in a very specific way in the Nicoya Peninsula; for the Central Valley and North Zone it is forecast for the night accumulated between 10-40mm.
Warning: High levels of soil saturation prevail in the North Zone, northwest of the Central Valley, the Nicoya Peninsula and the South Pacific; therefore, particular attention is recommended.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
