Tropical wave # 34 will enter Costa Rica this afternoon
September 12, 2021
Discussion: Tropical wave # 34 advances rapidly over Panama and in the next few hours it will enter the national territory; which, added to local factors such as morning warming and the entry of sea breezes, will propitiate ideal conditions for strong rainy and electrical activity during the afternoon and evening.
Forecast: During the afternoon, an increase in cloud coverage and the presence of heavy rains and downpours with an electrical storm are estimated, the most intense rains will be concentrated in the Pacific regions and the North Zone with amounts 30 - 70 mm and possible accumulated higher in a localized way. In the Central Valley and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, isolated showers and storms are expected with amounts between 15-50 mm.
Rainfall will continue at night, particularly in the Pacific coastal areas, with amounts between 30-60 mm. In addition, weak rains and fog banks are possible in the Central Valley and in the mountainous axis, precipitation ranges between 5-20 mm.
Warning: High levels of soil saturation remain in the North Pacific and South Pacific regions; also on the coasts of the Central Pacific and the North Zone, where the rapid increase in river flow could occur. Caution in the high parts before the imminence of landslides.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution for sewer saturation and possible flash floods in the North Zone, as well as in the Pacific, Central Valley.
- Prevention against thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind occurring or perceived near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
