Tropical Wave #35 over Costa Rica
September 17, 2021
Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 35 will be crossing Costa Rica this Friday, but the atmospheric conditions today do not favor generalized rainfall in the national territory. However, although very isolated rains are expected in the coming hours, these could be intense and accompanied by a thunderstorm.
Forecast: For this afternoon, very isolated showers with a thunderstorm are expected in the country, with the most intense rains concentrated in the North Zone, the North Pacific and the west of the Central Valley, with estimated amounts between 15mm and 30mm with maximums between 50mm and 60mm in a timely manner. In the rest of the country, scattered but intense downpours are expected with maximum amounts of 20mm and 40mm.
After the passage of the wave, there will be an increase in the intensity of the trade winds being more evident during the weekend; therefore, the rains in the Central Valley and the North Pacific will be more sporadic. On the contrary, in regions of the Caribbean and the North Zone there will be rainfall, being more general on Sunday.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Precaution for sewage saturation and possible flash floods in the Caribbean, Pacific, Central Valley and North Zone.
• Prevention against thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind present or perceived near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
