Rainy activity will continue at night
July 15, 2019
Discussion: The positioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the national territory generates very unstable atmospheric conditions, a situation that has led to precipitations of variable intensity and electrical storm. In the first of the afternoon, the heaviest downpours have been registered in high parts of Heredia, as well as in Ciudad Quesada and surrounding areas with accumulated close to 50 mm in the last 3 hours.
Forecast: In the remainder of the afternoon and during the night rain and heavy downpours are expected with an electrical storm in the Pacific (especially in the northern and central part), Central Valley and North Zone with amounts between 30-70 mm in lapses of 6-12 hours. In the mountains of the Caribbean, isolated rains are expected, accumulated 10-30 mm of 6-12 hours, in the coastal part of Limón, few rains is expected.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas with vulnerability to flooding due to saturation of sewers, increased flow in rivers and streams and sectors with high propensity to landslide.
- Shelter in a safe place in case of listening to thunderstorm or perceive strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines among others.
- There is possibility of intense winds and occasional gusts of wind.
