Weather Warning

Windy conditions persist this Thursday

March 19, 2020
11.00 am

Diagnosis: The transit of high pressure systems through the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean maintain the pattern of strong winds in the country. In the North Pacific, the highest gusts have reached between 40-60 km / h in the lower parts and between 70-84 km / h in the north and higher areas. On the other hand, in the Central Valley the gusts are in the range of 30-55 km / h. There are no rains in the country this morning.

Forecast: It is expected that strong winds in the center and north of the national territory generated by the high pressure system will persist during the rest of the week.

During this Thursday the windy conditions will continue in the North Pacific, Central Valley and mountain ranges with maximum gusts between 40-70 km / h in the lower parts and between 75-95 km / h for the north of Guanacaste and the mountains of the country.

In the national territory it is kept low in the humidity content which favors a dry environment, with very few cloudiness developments, only scattered showers are expected in the evening period in the Central and South Pacific, especially in the mountainous sectors and their vicinity with maximum accumulated between 5-20 mm.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Take extreme precautions for strong winds and their possible damage to roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution for boats by rough sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
• Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
