Meteorological Report
Rainy conditions in the Caribbean and the North Zone
January 19, 2020
6:00 pm
Forecast: During the night and early morning, intermittent rains of varying intensity between weak and moderate will be maintained on the Caribbean slope. For the whole part of the coastal part, maximum accumulations between 20-40 mm are anticipated in 12-hour periods, while in the mountainous parts, as well as in the North Zone, these are estimated at 10-30 mm. For the rest of the country drizzles are possible in the upper and nearby parts.
In addition, the moderate wind is expected to continue with occasional gusts in Guanacaste, the Central Valley and the mountain ranges with maximum intensities estimated between 40-60 km / h for the lowlands and between 50-80 km / h in the mountains.
It is expected that this Sunday the affectation of this system will be maintained, generating strong trade winds in the center and north of the national territory, as well as cloudy and rainy conditions in the Caribbean and the North Zone.
Special attention to areas with limitations to floods because due to the persistence of rain in the area during the last days the soils are saturated. Particular attention to the Banano, Colorado, Coen, Telire, Barbilla, Chirripó, Matina, Valle la Estrella and Reventazón rivers as they are reported to be grown, as well as to the Sixaola River that is reported overwhelmed in the sector known as Las Parcelas. It is recommended to be aware of the official communiqués of the National Emergency Commission, as well as of the official entities.
Next report today Sunday at 12 pm
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Extreme precautions due to strong winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
- Caution for boats by choppy sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, Central Pacific and the Caribbean Sea, as well as turbulent air navigation over the mountainous sectors.
- Avoid burning of all kinds and that can get out of control.
- Caution in areas with flood limitations due to sewer saturation, increased flow in rivers and streams, and in areas prone to landslides.
