During this Wednesday, storm conditions remain due to the indirect influence of tropical storm Eta

Discussion: Tropical storm Eta continues to advance towards the northern border of Nicaragua, with a speed of 13 km/h; the sustained winds are 95 km/h, its center is located 215 km northeast of Managua.

The indirect influence of this system continues this Wednesday, a situation that has caused persistent rains during the early hours and tomorrow; the highest amounts are recorded on the Pacific slope. Next, the accumulated maximums of the last 6 hours:

Forecast: Tropical storm Eta will continue over northern Nicaragua, a gradual reduction in intensity is estimated and may degrade into a tropical depression tonight as it enters to Honduras.
On this day the indirect influence over Costa Rica will be maintained; therefore, the storm conditions in the Pacific and Central Valley.

In the rest of the morning and during the afternoon, rains of variable intensity are expected in the Nicoya Peninsula, central zone (around Liberia), the north (around La Cruz), amounts between 20-80 mm, possible higher accumulated in a localized way. On the other hand, in the Central and South Pacific (especially the coastal sector, Osa Peninsula, around Coto Brus) rains and downpours are expected with accumulated between 25-60 mm. While in the Central Valley, North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean intermittent rains will continue, accumulated between 20-45 mm.

Warning: Special attention due to the saturation of the soils in the regions of the Pacific Slope, particularly in the cantons of Nandayure, Nicoya, Liberia, Carrillo and Hojancha in the North Pacific, in the South Pacific to Buenos Aires, Coto Brus and Osa and in the Central Pacific Parrita and Aguirre. Also pay special attention to the Los Santos area due to the risk of landslides.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
