Strong winds this Thursday
January 31, 2019
Diagnosis: The values ??of atmospheric pressure on the Caribbean Sea remains high due to the presence of a high pressure system located north of Florida in the United States, as a result of which the wind over the country remains accelerated. At this time the strongest gusts have registered in Guanacaste, with values ??of 85.2 km / h in the Orosi Volcano, 62.8 in Santa Cruz and 61.7 km / h in Liberia. On the other hand, in the Central Valley, there have been moderate to strong gusts with values ??of 47.7 km / h in San Joaquín, 59.6 km / h in Santa Ana, 55.1 km / h in Alajuela and 37.2 km / h in San José.
Forecast: During this Thursday the windy conditions will continue, in the regions of the North Pacific and Central Valley. Maximum gusts are estimated between 55-85 km / h in the mountain ranges of Guanacaste, Tilarán and in the plains; while in the Central Volcanic Range gusts that vary between 45-65 km / h.Throughout the day it is anticipated sky with partial cloudiness for the regions of the Caribbean and North Zone, in the Central Valley it will be varying from little cloudiness to partial cloudiness; while, for the Pacific Slope, conditions of little cloudiness are expected.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Extreme precautions for strong winds and possible damage to roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
- Caution for boats by the choppy sea in the north of the North Pacific, the Gulf of Nicoya, as well as air navigation by turbulence on the mountainous sectors.
- Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
