Windy conditions this saturday
February 02, 2019
Diagnosis: This Saturday the high values ??of pressure on the Caribbean Sea persist, which causes the wind to keep accelerating over the country. The maximum gusts recorded since midnight today were 86 km/h in La Cruz, 73 km/h in Orosi Volcano, 54 km/h in Alajuela, 50 km/h in Pavas, Liberia and 43 km/h in San José. The coverage of clouds in the country is scarce, concentrated in mountainous areas especially with some drizzle.
Forecast: For today, it is expected that the windy conditions persist in the north and center of the national territory, with gusts between 50 and 80 km/h in the mountainous areas of the country, while, in the lower parts of the North Pacific, Valle Central and Talamanca, occasional gusts are expected between 40 and 60 km/h.
Regarding the rains, they are expected in a dispersed way during this day and night in the coastal sector, as well as intermittent in the mountains of the Caribbean slope and North Zone. Amounts smaller than 10 mm are estimated in 24 hours. In the east and north of the Central Valley occasional drizzles can be generated.
With regard to temperatures, it is estimated that the maximum levels remain very fresh (less than 22 ° C), in sectors near the center of San José, Cartago and in high areas of the metropolitan area; otherwise, towards areas far from the mountain ranges west of the region where the maximum will reach between 26-29 ° C.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Extreme precautions for intense winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
- To also increase the precaution for the vessels by sharp sea and strong waves in the North Pacific and the Gulf of Nicoya, as well as to the aerial navigation by turbulence on the mountainous sectors.
- Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
