IMN-110319-Viento acelerado sobre el país
Accelerated wind over the country
March 11, 2019.
Diagnosis: The wind intensity remains strong on the country due to the magnitude of the atmospheric pressure on the Caribbean Sea. The most significant gusts recorded since midnight and until 10:00 am today have been 69 km / h in Liberia, 96 km / h in La Cruz and 90 km / h in the Orosi Volcano, while - in the Central Valley- these have been 69 km / h in Alajuela, 49 km / h in San José, 43 km / h in Cartago and 57 km / h in Pavas. On the other hand, scattered rains on the Caribbean slope with amounts of less than 9 mm have occurred this morning.
Forecast: Today the windy pattern is expected to continue with maximum gusts between 80-100 km / h in mountainous areas and 60-80 km / h in the lower parts of the North Pacific. For the east of the Central Valley moderate wind is expected with occasional gusts between 40 and 60 km / h, while for the west, 50-75 km / h.In the morning hours, with respect to the rains, weak rains are expected over the mountainous sectors of the Central Valley; In addition, in the Caribbean Slope the partially cloudy to cloudy skies will persist with isolated rains (accumulated of 15 mm). In the afternoon, showers in the Central and South Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- • Extreme precautions for intense winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
- • Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
- • To also increase the precaution for the vessels by sharp sea and strong waves in the North Pacific and the Gulf of Nicoya, as well as to the aerial navigation by turbulence on the mountainous sectors.
- • Extreme caution -at the aeronautical level- due to strong turbulence over the mountainous sectors in Guanacaste and the Central Valley
