Weather Warning -IMN-051022-11:50am
Rains accompanied by a strong electrical storm for this afternoon and early evening, in the Central and South Pacific
October 5, 2022
Diagnosis: Instability and local factors, in addition to a more structured moisture content in the regional atmosphere, will be favoring rainfall during the afternoon of Wednesday, for regions of the Pacific slope.
Forecast: Showers are forecast for today's afternoon, accompanied by a scattered but strong electrical storm, in sectors of the South Pacific, Central Pacific and mountains of the western Central Valley. The estimated amounts will be between 20-40 mm with punctual maximums of up to 100 mm in 24 hours. Said precipitations can extend in the first hours of the night, for the coastal regions of the Pacific slope.
For the North Pacific, rainfall will be concentrated on sectors of the Nicoya Peninsula, with amounts between 25 - 45 mm. For the North Zone there will be isolated showers, with amounts less than 30 mm, while for the Caribbean regions the rains will be concentrated on the mountainous sectors of the west, with amounts between 15 - 35 mm.
Variable but isolated rains are expected in the Central Valley, with amounts between 10 – 40 mm.
Warning: High saturation levels in the soils of the mountainous regions of the South Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible sudden flooding.
• Prevention before an electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
