Since 1953 Professor Víctor Manual Ureña had the idea of instilling civic spirit in the children in the town, so he decided to officially organize the "Desfile de Faroles" (lantern parade) on September 14 at 6:00 p.m. That is why Costa Ricans celebrate this historic parade, where children, youth and adults take to the streets with their artistic lanterns, filling the capital with joy and civic fervor.
