Windy conditions in the country

The atmospheric conditions on Central America and the Caribbean Sea, affects the increase of the wind in the national territory. Some of the most significant gusts recorded this morning were 90 km / h on the Cruz, 56 km / h at the Liberia Airport and 68 km / h at the Maritza Biological Reserve in Liberia, for the Guanacaste area, while in the Central Valley they were 59 km / h in San Joaquín de Flores, 58 km / h in Alajuela and 51 km / h in Pavas.

It is expected that, during the rest of the day, this windy pattern will continue with maximum gusts between 40-60 km / h for the Central Valley and the lower parts of Guanacaste, while for the mountainous sectors of the North Pacific, bursts are expected between 70-90 km / h.

In addition, there is the possibility of intermittent rains -of variable intensity- in the Caribbean and the Northern Zone with amounts between 5-15 mm; as well as in the mountainous sectors of the Central Valley and North Pacific, with amounts less than 10 mm. As for the Central and South Pacific, isolated showers are anticipated with probability of storms and maximum accumulated between 20-40 mm.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Extreme precautions for intense winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).

• Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.

• Also, take extreme precautions for boats in the choppy sea in the North Pacific and the Gulf of Nicoya, as well as air navigation due to turbulence in the mountainous sectors.

• Extreme caution -at the aeronautical level- due to strong turbulence over the mountainous sectors in Guanacaste and the Central Valley
