Influencia de la Onda Tropical #17 y condiciones ventosas persistentes

Diagnóstico: Durante este día, la Onda Tropical #17 estará transitando por el país. Además, persiste un patrón ventoso en el centro y norte del territorio nacional, con ráfagas que alcanzan hasta 85 km/h en el norte de Guanacaste durante la mañana.

 

Pronóstico: La Onda Tropical #17 recorrerá el país hoy; sin embargo, variaciones en el contenido de humedad atmosférica influirán en la intensidad de sus efectos. En particular, la atmósfera al norte del país presenta una capa más seca, mientras que en el sur predomina un mayor contenido de humedad. Bajo estas condiciones, se espera lo siguiente por regiones:

 

• Pacífico Central y Sur: Se prevén aguaceros aislados con tormenta eléctrica durante la tarde, con acumulados máximos estimados entre 40 y 75 mm.

 

• Pacífico Norte y Valle Central: Se anticipan lluvias muy aisladas en sectores montañosos y sus alrededores. Ambas regiones, al igual que en días anteriores, continuarán bajo condiciones ventosas, con ráfagas entre 40 y 60 km/h en el Valle Central, y entre 60 y 90 km/h en el Pacífico Norte.

 

• Caribe y Zona Norte: Por la tarde, se esperan chubascos dispersos en zonas montañosas, con montos entre 5 y 25 mm. Para la noche, se proyecta un incremento en la actividad lluviosa, con aguaceros y tormenta eléctrica que podrían generar acumulados entre 30 y 60 mm, con posibles montos localmente superiores.

⚠️Advertencia: Se recomienda precaución ante tormentas eléctricas que podrían estar acompañadas de ráfagas descendentes. Además, los suelos continúan saturados en sectores de la Zona Norte y el Caribe, lo que incrementa el riesgo de deslizamientos e inundaciones.

 

Debido a lo anterior, el IMN recomienda:

• Precaución ante la posible saturación del alcantarillado en zonas propensas a inundaciones por acumulación de agua.
• Prevención ante tormenta eléctrica: en caso de presentarse o de percibir fuertes ráfagas de viento cerca de nubes de tormenta, se recomienda buscar refugio en un sitio seguro, ya que podrían generarse caídas de ramas de árboles, tendido eléctrico u otros objetos. Estas ráfagas pueden alcanzar hasta 80 km/h en casos aislados.

Weather Warning (Update)

Saturday with variable rains for the Pacific slope and Central Valley

Diagnosis: A wide region of instability over all of Central America, due to large-scale forcing along the Intertropical Convergence Zone and the passage of tropical waves, has caused heavy downpours to occur this Saturday in our country in coastal areas of the South Pacific and North Pacific, in addition to cloudy conditions with variable rainfall in the Central Valley, Central Pacific and downpours with storms in the Northern Zone and mountainous parts of the Caribbean.

In the last 12 hours the accumulated rainfall recorded by region is: for the North Pacific between 30 – 50 mm with maximums of 90 mm (Tamarindo), for the South Pacific between 10 – 40 mm with a maximum of 118 mm (Osa), in the Central Valley and Central Pacific between 10 – 50 mm, while the regions of the western Caribbean along with low parts of the Northern Zone, record accumulated rainfall between 5 – 40 mm.

Forecast: Localized showers are expected to continue in the late afternoon in low areas and near the Caribbean coasts. Accumulated amounts will be between 10 - 40 mm with maximums of up to 65 mm. In the case of the Pacific side, there will be occasional cloud cover and the possibility of moderate rain during the late afternoon and evening hours. Accumulated amounts will be between 10 - 40 mm.

For the early morning period, scattered showers are expected to occur again on the coasts of the Central Pacific, the North Pacific and around the Golfo Dulce. Accumulated amounts will be between 30 - 50 mm with maximums of 70 mm.

For the Central Valley, the probability of moderate to light rain will continue until Sunday, with scattered fog today, along with fog banks during the early morning and Sunday morning.

Warning: The rains forecast for the Pacific coastal sector and low-lying areas could cause flooding due to overflowing rivers and ravines (peninsular areas). Possibility of landslides on saturated soils in the mountains of the South Pacific, Central Pacific and western Caribbean.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.

• Prevention in the event of an electrical storm and seeking shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind occurring or perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
