Strong gusts in the center and north of the country this Wednesday

Diagnosis: The increase in atmospheric pressure in Central America and the Caribbean Sea basin from this Tuesday and for this Wednesday, January 17, will be favoring the presence of accelerated trade winds with the presence of occasional strong gusts, especially for the center and north of the country.

Forecast: Throughout the day Wednesday, occasional gusts of wind are expected to occur during periods of the day. Maximum gusts are estimated between 40-70 km/h for the Central Valley and lower parts of Guanacaste, as well as values between 75-90 km/h for northern Guanacaste and the mountain ranges.

As for precipitation, the probability of scattered occasional rain will continue for the morning and evening period this Wednesday in the Caribbean regions and parts of the Northern Zone. Those accumulated in 24 hours should not exceed 40 mm.

Warning: Special attention due to gusts of winds in the mountainous sectors and to the north of the North Pacific and in the Central Valley.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes).

• Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and northern Central Pacific.

• Avoid burning of all types, as they can get out of control.
