Diagnosis: Currently there is an electrical storm to the west of the Central Valley and sectors of the Northern Zone. Sectors such as San Ramón and San Carlos report amounts between 60 - 70 mm since 7 am. The storm remains stable with a movement west-southwest towards sectors of Bagaces and Nicoya. In addition, electrical activity is reported in border sectors of the North Pacific (near the border) and in the South Pacific, in sectors such as the Osa Peninsula, Punta Uvita and San Vito.

Forecast: The presence of fog banks is expected in the Central Valley that could establish between 6 – 8 pm. Also, drizzle after 8 pm in the Central Valley.

On the other hand, it is estimated that these downpours will continue to the west with accumulated between 5 – 20 mm during the night hours due to the electrical storm in areas near Heredia, Alajuela, San Ramón in the Central Valley, in addition, San Carlos and surroundings in the North Zone.

In the North Pacific and South Pacific, amounts between 5 - 20 mm are expected in the next few hours. This in sectors near Puntarenas, Bagaces and Nicoya in the North Pacific and the Osa Peninsula and San Vito in the South Pacific.

More stable conditions remain in the Caribbean.

Warning: Special attention in mountainous sectors of the western and southern Central Valley, as well as in Sarapiquí, around San Carlos in the Northern Zone, and also in the border area with Panama. This is due to the vulnerability of saturated soils, which increases the risk of incidents.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach between 80 to 100km/h in some isolated cases.
