Weather Warning
Tropical wave #6 crosses Costa Rica this Thursday
June 08, 2023.
10.00 am
Diagnosis: This Thursday, tropical wave #6 crosses Costa Rica increasing the atmospheric instability that has left the rains of recent days.
Forecast: For this afternoon, downpours with an electrical storm are expected, beginning in the mountainous sectors of the Central Valley, the North Zone and extending to the lower parts of these regions, as well as the North Pacific. Rain amounts are expected between 30 mm and 60 mm with maximums between 75 mm and 90 mm in periods of 6 hours. In the Central Pacific and the South Pacific, the rains will be concentrated along the coast until late at night. Rainfall amounts between 50-70 mm are expected in periods of 6 hours, with possible higher amounts in a localized manner. Warning: Special attention due to high soil saturation values due to rains in recent days in mountainous regions of the North Pacific, North Zone and the GAM in the Central Valley.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution for saturation of the sewerage in places prone to this type of flooding. • Prevention before electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
