Aviso Meteorológico
Instability persists over the country this Tuesday
Jun 10, 2025
10.10 am
Diagnosis: This week, we continue to be under the influence of a broad region of instability extending across southern Central America. The activation of the Intertropical Convergence Zone and instability in the upper atmosphere favor, and even intensify, an environment conducive to recurrent rainfall throughout the day.
Forecast: This afternoon, showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening along the Central and South Pacific, the Nicoya Peninsula, and the Caribbean Mountains and the Northern Zone. Accumulated rainfall over the 12 hours is expected to range between 20 and 45 mm, with peak rainfall between 50 and 70 mm. The Central Valley will have rain and potential showers with isolated thunderstorms in the west and north, with accumulated rainfall between 15 and 40 mm.
The IMN continues to monitor the possible development of a low-pressure system segregated from the Pacific Convergence Zone near CR, which would increase the possibility of rain for that area in the second half of this week. Stay tuned for the following updates.
Warning: Currently, soil saturation percentages between 85% and 95% are recorded around the Osa canton, the Talamanca Mountains, the General Valley, the Central Pacific, and the Nicoya Peninsula, around Tempisque, as well as, in general, over the Northern Zone and Braulio Carrillo, and the eastern and western extremes of the Central Valley, increasing vulnerability to incidents.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewer saturation in areas prone to this type of flooding. • Prepare for thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place if strong wind gusts occur or are detected near storm clouds, due to the potential for falling tree branches, power lines, and other conditions. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social media: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR, and the website: www.imn.ac.cr
