Weather Warning

The accelerated winds continues with strong gust this Sunday

February 23, 2025
11:00 am

Diagnosis: Cold surge #11 leaves behind high levels of atmospheric pressure that favor windy conditions towards the center and north of the country. The maximum recorded gusts are: between 65 - 90 km/h for the mountains of northern Guanacaste (La Cruz, V. Orosi, Bagaces). The sectors of the Central Valley and lower parts of the North Pacific maintain ranges between 40 km/h and 65 km/h.

Forecast: Strong gusts are expected for this Sunday towards the Central Valley and North Pacific, along with the mountains of the north of the country. In sectors of the Central Valley and lower parts of the North Pacific, gusts between 35 km/h and 65 km/h are expected, while in the north of Guanacaste, gusts between 70 km/h and 90 km/h are expected. Current analyses indicate that this windy pattern will continue until this Sunday, with the presence of increasingly occasional and less strong gusts during the afternoon and night.

Warning: Special attention is recommended in the mountains and in the surrounding low areas due to the presence of strong to very strong gusts.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Prevention due to gusts of wind and their possible damage to roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and northern Central Pacific.
• Avoid fires of any kind, as they can get out of control.
