Informative Weather Warning

Tracking tropical wave # 30 and its potential in tropical cyclone

August 18, 2020
01.20 p.m.

Discussion: Tropical wave # 30 is located in the Caribbean Sea north of Venezuela, approximately 1630 km from Costa Rica. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicates development potential in a tropical depression of 20% (low) in the next 48 hours and 70% (high) in 5 days.

Forecast: According to the latest analysis, tropical wave # 30 will be approaching Costa Rica on Thursday. Due to its possible position and strengthening in a tropical cyclone, a high probability of indirect influence towards our country is estimated; which can generate an increase in rainfall in the national territory from that day and towards the weekend.

The IMN will keep strict monitoring of the evolution of said disturbance and will inform in a timely manner of any variation of the same and its possible influence on the country.
