Weather Report # 2 Intermittent rains tonight due to the indirect influence of Tropical Depression # 14 on the country

August 20, 2020
6:00 pm

Diagnosis: The atmospheric instability associated with tropical wave # 30 has given rise to tropical depression # 14 which was formed in the area of ??the Caribbean Sea between Jamaica and northern Nicaragua. The system is located approximately 800 km from the North Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and has indirectly affected the country, contributing to the convergence zone being positioned over the national territory. With cut-off at 6:00 pm this afternoon, the maximum accumulated by region are

:
CLIMATE REGION RANGE (OF MAXIMUM ACCUMULATION):
North Pacific: 110-190 mm
Central Pacific: 30-45 mm
South Pacific: 30-64 mm
Central Valley: 20-35 mm
North Zone: 30-47 mm
North and South Caribbean (mountainous area): 30-48 mm

Forecast: For the remainder of tonight, intermittent rains will continue over practically the entire national territory. On the Pacific slope, moderate intensity rains are expected with accumulated estimates between 10-30 mm in periods of 6 hours. In the Central Valley, North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean, rains of intensity between weak and moderate during the first hours of this night, the accumulated are estimated between 5-15 mm in periods of 6 hours. No significant rainfall is expected for the coastal parts of the Caribbean.

The most recent analyzes show a persistence of the indirect impact by tropical depression # 14 on the country in the following days. For this weekend, very rainy conditions are expected to remain in the national territory with intense downpours throughout the day; the most affected area is expected to be the Pacific slope.

Warning: Special attention in all regions of the Pacific, the North Zone, high parts of the Caribbean and the Central Valley since the soils remain saturated due to the rains of the last days

.
