Weather Report #10
Rains tonight mainly in the Pacific
26 de agosto de 2021
6.00 p.m.
Discussion: In the course of the afternoon, tropical depression 9 has strengthened, passing to the degree of a tropical storm called Ida and is located 195 km west of Negril, Jamaica. The position of this system modulates the Intertropical Convergence Zone, locating it over Costa Rica; which has caused cloudy conditions for most of this day and rainfall in much of the country, with higher accumulated in Pacific regions, the amounts ranging between 10-45 mm. in the last 6 hours.
Forecast: Tonight and towards the early hours of Friday, intermittent rains of moderate intensity are expected, with greater recurrence in regions of the Pacific. Amounts between 40mm and 60mm with maximums between 70mm and 90mm locally in periods of 6 hours.
In the Central Valley, North Zone and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean, drizzles and fog banks are possible with accumulated between 10-40mm.
Warning: Special attention due to high vulnerability due to the rains of the last days in the cantons: Desamparados, Turrialba, San Ramón, Orotina, Garabito, also in high parts of the country due to the imminence of landslides, falling trees and debris on roads.
In coastal areas of the Pacific, be careful as the tide will be high in the next few days, making it difficult for the rivers to exit.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas of vulnerability to flooding due to sewerage saturation and stream overflow.
- Prevention against electrical storms and it is recommended to seek shelter in a safe place in case of presenting or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possibility of falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
