Weather Warning

Extreme heat in the country continues this weekend

March 8, 2024
8.45 am

Diagnosis: The usually hot conditions of the month of March in our country are still present and, together with the absence of clouds and trade winds, as well as the presence of the El Niño phenomenon, continue to generate extreme maximum temperatures in Guanacaste and the Central Valley that have broken some records of the current month.

Forecast: Current analyzes indicate that these extreme heat conditions will continue into the weekend in the national territory. This Friday, we expect maximum temperatures close to 40°C during the day for the North Pacific, occasionally higher values could be recorded. While in the Central Valley the maximum temperature values close to 33°C will remain, especially in the west of the region. In the rest of the country, maximum temperatures between 33°C and 36°C are expected, the highest in the border sector with Panama and towards the plains of the northern border as well.

Starting Monday, we will have a decrease in extreme heat due to the increase in trade winds.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Stay hydrated regularly to avoid heat stroke.

• Use sunscreen at all times, avoiding exposure to solar radiation between 10 am and 2 pm.
