Weather Report N°6

Gradual return to normal weather conditions in the Caribbean regions and North Zone region

April 11th, 2024
9.00 a.m.

Diagnosis: After several days with abundant rainfall in both the Caribbean and the Northern Zone, in the last hours there was a decrease in rainfall in these regions, registering amounts not exceeding 10 mm. Starting this weekend, with the arrival of a dry air mass from the Caribbean Sea, there will be more stable atmospheric patterns and, therefore, precipitation will decrease even more in these areas in the coming days.

Forecast: The remainder of the morning will be dominated by variable total to partial cloudiness, with occasional showers near the coast, which will not exceed 10 mm.

In the afternoon, rains in the Caribbean and Northern Zone (including the Sarapiquí river basin) will be concentrated in the mountains, with estimated amounts between 15 mm and 30 mm, with maximum amounts of up to 60 mm. Meanwhile, on the Pacific coast and mountains of the Central Valley, downpours characteristic of the transition period are expected, with amounts between 20 mm and 40 mm.

Warning: Keep vigilance in the canton of Limón and surroundings, due to the flow in streams and rivers; as well as in the mountainous parts of Route 32, due to the rains of the last days generating unstable slopes.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

- Caution overflowing streams and small rivers in places prone to this type of flooding.

- Prevention before thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.

- Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
