Weather Warning (Update)
Tropical Wave #4
Jun 01, 2025
11.10 am
Diagnosis: Tropical Wave #4 is located over Costa Rica this Sunday. In addition to the transit of this disturbance, we remain within the Intertropical Convergence Zone over our latitude, providing high moisture inputs to the Pacific slope.
Forecast: The wave will continue to advance over our country this afternoon and exit during the evening. Increased rainfall is expected as it passes. Specifically, the areas with the greatest potential for heavy downpours with thunderstorms are the North Pacific, Central Pacific, the Northern Zone, and the mountains of the Northern Caribbean, especially in the late afternoon and overnight hours of this Sunday. Rainfall amounts between 30 and 60 mm are estimated over periods of 3 to 6 hours. In the case of the South Pacific, the Central Valley, and the mountains of the Southern Caribbean, accumulations of 20 to 50 mm are expected during the same periods, and fog banks are likely in these regions during the night. Warning: Soils are highly saturated in the South Pacific, Garabito, and the Sarapiquí River basin. Moderate to high saturation is observed in the plains of the Nicoya Peninsula, the Caribbean, and Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewer saturation in areas prone to this type of flooding. • Prepare for thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place if strong wind gusts occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among other things. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social media: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR, and the website: www.imn.ac.cr
