Weather Warning -Update-
Tropical wave #6 crosses Costa Rica this Thursday
June 08, 2023.
6:00 pm
Diagnosis: This Thursday, tropical wave #6 crosses Costa Rica increasing the atmospheric instability that has left the rains of recent days. During today's afternoon there have been scattered downpours accompanied by electrical storms throughout the mountainous axis of the country, which are now maintained with the presence of variable rains in most of the country. The amounts registered so far in the Central Valley are around 10-40 mm with punctual maximums of up to 50-75 mm in the north of Heredia (Santa Barbara) and around Cartago. The other regions show values lower than 50 mm with the exception of the mountains of the North Zone with another maximum close to 70 mm.
Forecast: By the end of the afternoon and early hours of the night, weak and moderate rains will remain in the Central Valley with amounts of less than 25 mm, while to the west of the Caribbean regions there will be occasional downpours with amounts between 25 - 45mm with punctual maximums of 70mm, all this in periods of 6 hours. In the Central Pacific and the South Pacific, the rains will be concentrated along the coast until late at night. Rain amounts are expected between 40-70 mm with maximums of up to 85 mm in a localized manner. 6 hour periods
Warning: Special attention due to high soil saturation values due to rains in recent days in mountainous regions of the North Pacific, North Zone and the GAM in the Central Valley.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution for saturation of the sewerage in places prone to this type of flooding.
• Prevention before electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
