Weather Warning

Downpours in the Pacific this afternoon

October 13, 2020
02.50 p.m.

Discussion: The Intertropical Convergence Zone remains active and close to the country; situation that caused during the morning the incursion of cloudiness and rain in the northern border sector and the coasts of the Central and South Pacific. In the early afternoon, isolated downpours and a thunderstorm occur in regions of the Central and South Pacific.

Forecast: This afternoon there will be isolated rains and downpours with a thunderstorm in the Pacific regions, with accumulated between 25-50 mm, higher amounts are possible locally. On the other hand, in the North Zone, Central Valley and the Caribbean isolated showers with accumulated between 10-30 mm are possible.

It is estimated that the rainy activity extends to the first hours of the night in coastal areas of the Pacific, accumulated estimates between 20-40 mm.

Warning: Special attention due to the high percentage of soil saturation in the North Zone, South Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
