Weather Advisory
Variable Intensity Rainfall Expected This Afternoon
June 25, 2025
10:00 am
Diagnosis:
Following the passage of strong Tropical Wave #8 on Tuesday, conditions are expected to return to a more typical rainy season pattern this Wednesday. Today's rainfall will be mainly influenced by local factors (such as high temperatures and sea breezes) and the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.
Forecast:
During the afternoon and early evening hours, rainfall of varying intensity is expected across several regions of the country.
Northern Zone and mountainous Caribbean: Scattered showers and localized heavy downpours are expected.
Rainfall accumulations are estimated between 20 and 40 mm, with localized maximums possibly reaching 60 to 80 mm. Tropical Wave #9:
It is currently located in eastern Panama and is moving gradually toward Costa Rica. It is expected to reach the country around midnight on Wednesday. However, its most significant effects will likely be felt during the afternoon on Thursday, when the instability associated with its passage is forecast to enhance rainfall activity.
Soil moisture remains very high (95–100%) in the Northern Zone and mountainous sectors of the Northern Caribbean (areas such as Sarapiquí, San Carlos, and Los Chiles), increasing the risk of landslides and flooding.
Elevated saturation levels (85–90%) are also reported in the western Nicoya Peninsula, the mountains of the South Pacific, and areas near the Golfo Dulce.
Given these conditions, the IMN recommends:
Caution due to possible drainage overflow in areas prone to flooding caused by water accumulation.Precaution during thunderstorms: If a thunderstorm occurs or if strong gusts of wind are observed near storm clouds, it is advisable to seek shelter in a safe place, as falling tree branches, power lines, or other objects may occur. These gusts can reach up to 80 km/h in isolated cases.
