Weather Warning (Update)
Tropical Wave #4
Jun 01, 2025
5:50 p.m.
Forecast: Tropical Wave 4 is over Costa Rica this Sunday. In addition to the transit of this disturbance, we remain within the Intertropical Convergence Zone over our latitude, providing high moisture inputs to the Pacific slope. The main accumulated rainfall at this time is as follows: Northern Zone 53 mm in San Ramón; Northern Pacific 46 mm in Santa Rosa; Central and Southern Pacific 36 mm in Puerto Jimenez; Central Valley 29 mm in Fraijanes; and Caribbean 13 mm in Turrialba.
Forecast: The wave will be exiting the country tonight. Specifically, during the night, the areas with the greatest potential for heavy downpours with thunderstorms are the Northern Pacific and the Northern Zone, with estimated rainfall amounts between 20 and 60 mm over periods of 3 to 6 hours. Light rain with fog is expected in the Central Valley, Central Pacific, and Southern Pacific. The Caribbean will remain predominantly cloudy.
Warning: Soils are highly saturated in the South Pacific, Garabito, and Sarapiquí River basins. Moderate to high saturation is observed in the plains of the Nicoya Peninsula, the Caribbean, and Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewer saturation in areas prone to this type of flooding. • Prepare for thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place if strong wind gusts occur or are felt near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among other things. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social media: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR, and the website: www.imn.ac.cr
