Weather Warning

Favorable conditions for heavy downpours on Tuesday

June 3th, 2025
10:00 a.m.

Forecast: Isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected along the Guanacaste and Central Volcanic mountain ranges, as well as the Central Pacific and South Pacific mountains, with estimated amounts between 30 mm and 50 mm with maximum amounts between 75 mm and 90 mm mainly to the west of the Central Valley and around the Gulf of Nicoya. Moderate but punctual rains with accumulated amounts of up to 40 mm are also expected in the mountains of the Northern Zone, the Northern Caribbean and the Central Pacific and Southern Pacific coast.

On the other hand, in the plains of the Northern Zone and the Caribbean, rains will be very scattered.

Warning: Attention to the presence of strong thunderstorms and heavy rains in these regions could cause overflowing of streams and sewage in urban areas.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • - Caution for sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.
  • - Prevention before thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
  • - Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
