Weather Warning

Tropical wave # 34 crossing Costa Rica this Saturday

Sept 5, 2020
10.30 am

Diagnosis: This Saturday the Intertropical Convergence Zone is close to the country and, together with the passage of tropical wave # 34, will be generating strong rainy activity during this afternoon and early evening.

Forecast: During this day, the most intense rains will be concentrated in the Pacific Slope (mainly North Pacific) and North Zone; Amounts for this day are estimated between 30-40mm and maximum 75-90mm.

In the Central Valley, amounts of 30-40mm and maximums of 50-60mm are estimated. On the other hand, in the Caribbean regions, the rains will be concentrated in the mountains, with maximum amounts 20-30mm

Warning: Be very careful for the Central Valley due to adverse driving conditions; also in the mountains of both the North Zone and the North Pacific and the South Pacific due to possible small landslides. As well as ravine flood prone areas in the South Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
