Weather Warning

FHeavy downpours and thunderstorm this afternoon

June 06, 2020
10.35 a.m.

Discussion: The warm morning temperatures and the entrance of humidity from the maritime sectors are determining factors to promote clouds of great vertical development that generate heavy downpours and thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Forecast: Rains and downpours accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, in the North Zone, Central Valley and Pacific regions, accumulated estimates are between 20-60 mm. The most intense rains in these sectors will be localized. For the Caribbean, it will be in the mountainous areas where isolated rains and showers occur, amounts between 15-30 mm.

During the first part of the night period, rains and showers will be maintained, mainly in the Pacific regions. In addition, fog banks are possible in the Metropolitan Area.

Warning: Special attention in the North Zone, North Pacific, mountains of the Central and South Pacific, since high levels of soil saturation are maintained.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas with vulnerability to floods, even more so in sectors with recent rainy activity.
  • Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
