Weather Warning
Showers and thunderstorm in the Central and South Pacific during the afternoon
June 28, 2022
11.30 a.m.
Discussion: Humid and unstable atmospheric conditions over the country and its surroundings, in addition to local factors such as warm morning temperatures and the entry of sea breezes, will lead to heavy downpours and an electrical storm this afternoon.
Forecast: In the evening period, it is estimated in the Central and South Pacific that there is a high potential for heavy downpours and electrical storms; Accumulated between 30-60 mm are expected, possible higher maximums in a timely manner in periods of 12 hours. For its part, in the Central Valley (mainly center and west) and North Zone, isolated rains and possible storms are expected, amounts between 25-50 mm, in periods of 12 hours.
The rains can extend into the early hours of the night in regions of the coastal Pacific.
Warning: Special attention in the North Zone (Upala, Guatuso, San Carlos and Sarapiquí), the mountainous North Caribbean (Braulio Carrillo), the South Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula; because they maintain high soil saturation values.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods in the North Caribbean, North Zone and South Pacific.
- Prevention before an electrical storm and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
