Weather Warning
Unstable conditions remain over our country this afternoon and evening
October 09, 2024
11:20 am
Diagnosis: We continue with a high humidity content in the country, which is being caused by the position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone and the systems in the middle and upper atmosphere. The precipitations have remained active on the Pacific side during the early morning and the morning, with accumulations between 10 to 30 mm (mainly in the South Pacific). In addition, satellite images show cloud developments extending towards the Talamanca mountain range and the Central Volcanic mountain range.
Forecast: For this afternoon, showers with thunderstorms are expected in the North Zone and west of the Caribbean. The estimated accumulations would be between 10 - 50 mm with maximum amounts between 50 - 70 mm. In the case of the Pacific regions, variable rainfall is expected with occasional thunderstorms and mainly over the mountains. The accumulations would be between 20 - 40 mm with maximum amounts of 70 mm. On the other hand, intermittent rains are expected in the Central Valley with accumulated amounts varying between 10-30 mm.
Warning: Very saturated soil conditions continue throughout the central mountainous part of the country on both sides, the Central Valley and in low areas of both peninsulas in the Pacific. In addition, a large part of the Northern Zone registers high saturation values. This situation indicates a risk of incidents due to sewer saturation, river flooding or landslides in areas where rain is estimated to occur during this day.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewer saturation in places prone to this type of flooding. • Prevention in the event of an electrical storm and seeking shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind occurring or perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social media: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEBSITE: www.imn.ac.cr
