Weather Warning
Indirect influence of Hurricane Rafael in the north side of the country
November 06, 2024
09:10 a.m.
Diagnosis: This morning Hurricane Rafael is located 190 km south of Havana, Cuba, maintains sustained winds of 175 km/h and moves northwest at 22 km/h. The position of this system favors the incursion of moisture from the Pacific Ocean to the national territory and especially on the North Pacific. The foregoing has led to varyarines and variable rains for this region, with accumulated in the last 6 hours between 10 - 50 mm, with the highest amounts and up to 125 mm, registered towards the surroundings of Sardinal.
Forecast: In the remainder of the morning, variable cloudiness will prevail in regions of the Pacific of Costa Rica, they will also continue to present rains especially over the North Pacific. The estimated amounts would be between 10 - 60 mm. For the afternoon and night in Pacific regions, intensity variable rains are estimated, accumulated between 30 - 80 mm in periods of 6-12 hours, they are possible superior amounts locally, especially for the North Pacific and Mountains of the Central Pacific. For the Central Valley during this Wednesday, rains with downpours are provided for sectors of the East and North. These rainfall can begin near noon and extend during the evening period and first part of the night. They are possible fog banks. The estimated amounts of 12 -hour lapses would be varying between 15 - 60 mm.
On the other hand, in the North Zone and Mountains of the Caribbean, isolated but strong downpours are expected and accompanied by a storm, these in the afternoon and first part of the night. Accumulated estimated between 25 -50 with maximums located up to 80 mm in periods of 6 -12 hours.
According to the latest analyzes, today it would be the last day of indirect influence of the tropical cyclone Rafael, however, instability and humidity will be maintained in the region, so the probability of rains for the Pacific slope is high and increasing. This for these regions that are already vulnerable by the rains of recent days.
WARNING: Soil saturation with extremely high percentages are maintained in both peninsulas, the entire North Pacific, mountains of the South Pacific, North Zone, Central Pacific and Central Valley, which is recommended to extreme measures since they have high vulnerability of incidents.
Due to the above, IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewerage saturation in places prone to this type of flood.
• Storm prevention and seek refuge in a safe site in case of presenting or strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, electric laying, among others. These bursts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
