Heavy downpours in the Central Pacific and South Pacific
June 29, 2019.
Diagnosis: In the course of this afternoon there have been heavy downpours in some sectors of the South Pacific (San Vito, Coto Brus, Ciudad Neily, Golfito, Ciudad Cortés, Dominical, Buenos Aires, San Isidro and its surroundings) leaving accumulated between 20 and 50 mm in the last 2 hours.
Forecast: It is estimated that this strong rainy activity has a tendency to remain isolated in the South Pacific, but that in turn extends to the Central Pacific (Parrita-Quepos-Jacó) and potentially to the Gulf and the Nicoya Peninsula in the next hours. Predicted accumulations range between 30-60 mm in periods of 3 to 6 hours in the sectors mentioned.
In the rest of the country the precipitations will be isolated, located mainly in the mountains and with accumulated less than 20 mm in the next 3 hours. As the night progresses (after 9-10 p.m.) the chances of heavy rain will decrease throughout the national territory.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas with vulnerability to flooding due to saturation of sewers, increased flow in rivers and streams and sectors with high propensity to landslide.
- Shelter in a safe place in case of listening to an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines among others.
