Rains in the Caribbean and North Zone during this morning
july 10th, 2019.
Diagnosis: Atmospheric instability caused by the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone causes cloudy conditions and variable intensity rainfall in most of the country. The most important precipitations have been registered mainly during the first hours of the dawn in the North Caribbean and North Zone where they have accumulated between 10-35 mm in the last 6 hours. In the South Caribbean, Central Valley and North of Guanacaste there have been less intense rains with amounts between 1-10 mm in the same period, however, the activity in the South Caribbean is intensifying.
Forecast: In the remainder of the morning the predominance of mostly cloudy conditions over the country is expected with intermittent rains of variable intensity. In the Central Valley there will be scattered showers mainly near the mountains with amounts between 1-5 mm in 6 hours, for the North Caribbean, North Zone and North of Guanacaste scattered rains are anticipated with amounts between 5-10 mm in 6 hours, with possible higher amounts in a timely manner. For the Southern Caribbean, rains are expected with a possible storm located mainly near coastal regions with amounts between 20-30 mm in periods of 6 hours.For the Central and South Pacific, isolated drizzles may occur mainly in the vicinity of the mountains.
For the afternoon period, there will be isolated rains with a thunderstorm located in the Central and South Pacific regions, especially in the mountainous regions and their surroundings and in the Central Valley, mainly in the western part. Maximum accumulated amounts are expected between 30-60 mm in periods of 6 hours.For the Caribbean, no significant rainy conditions are expected during this period, although isolated rains may be available.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas with vulnerability to flooding due to sewer saturation, this due to the increase in flow in rivers and streams, and in places with high propensity to landslides in general, mainly in the Caribbean and North Zone.
- Shelter in a safe place in case of listening to thunderstorm or perceive strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines among others.
