Rainy morning in various parts of the country
August 12, 2019.
Diagnosis: The positioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the country has generated rainy conditions with a thunderstorm located in several parts of the country this morning. From midnight until 7 am today, accumulated rainfall has been recorded between 15-30 mm in the South Caribbean and between 1-10 mm in the Central Valley and Pacific regions.
Forecast: During the remainder of the morning, a tendency of rains to diminish over the regions of the South Caribbean and Central Valley is expected, even so, sky conditions between partial and mostly cloudy with isolated rains and maximum accumulated amounts between 5-15 mm. For the Central and South Pacific regions, in addition to the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula, isolated rains are expected mainly near coastal areas with maximum accumulated amounts between 1-10 mm, possible higher amounts and thunderstorms can occur locally . For the North Caribbean and North Zone, scattered rains are anticipated especially in mountainous areas with amounts between 1-5 mm accumulated.For the Afternoon the rainy activity will be concentrated mainly in the Central and South Pacific regions in addition to the Nicoya Peninsula with isolated showers with a thunderstorm in a timely manner and estimated maximum accumulated between 20-50 mm. For the rest of the country, scattered rains and possible downpours are expected in a main local way, especially in the mountainous parts and its surroundings, the maximum accumulated amounts are estimated between 5-20 mm.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation, increased flow in rivers and streams, and in areas prone to landslides.
- Shelter in a safe place in case of hearing thunderstorms or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as precaution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines among others.
- Caution to drivers due to reduced visibility and wet roads.
