Weather Warning

Variable precipitations in the Central and South Pacific regions

May 04, 2024
10:20 a.m.

Diagnosis: The presence of weak trade winds, high temperatures and high humidity contents towards the south of Central America will be accompanied by instability due to the proximity of the Convergence Zone. The above will favor periods of afternoon and night rain this Saturday.

Forecast: During the afternoon period, the presence of scattered showers accompanied by an electrical storm is forecast in the mountainous parts of the South Pacific, which will move and develop later in low areas near the coasts, this for the end of the afternoon and early hours. of the night. The amounts accumulated in 12 hours will be between 25 - 50 mm with specific maximums of 75 mm. In the case of the Central Pacific, occasional showers and downpours with a short-duration storm are projected. The amounts will be between 15 - 50 mm.

For the surroundings of the Gulf of Nicoya, there will be showers and downpours accompanied by isolated storms. The accumulations will be between 10 - 30 mm with specific maximums of up to 60 mm.

The Central Valley will present showers to the north and west, with isolated rain to the east. The aculates will be between 10 - 45 mm.

Warning: Be careful in sectors of the South Pacific where rains have been recurrent in the afternoons, with the presence of humid soils both in low areas and especially in mountainous areas.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation in places prone to this type of flooding.

• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases.
