Weather Warning

Strong winds are maintained this Tuesday

March 10, 2020
10.35 am

Diagnosis: As a result of the high atmospheric pressure that is registered in the Caribbean Sea, caused by the cold surge # 22 that continues to enter the Atlantic Ocean, the strong wind is maintained in the country.

In the North Pacific the major gusts have reached between 70 km / h in low areas and up to 84 km / h in the mountains, in addition, in the Central Valley the gusts this morning have been 65 km / h on the Chitaría hill, 68 km / h in Alajuela, 60 km / h in Ciudad Colón and 50 km / h in San José, to name a few. No rains nationwide.

Forecast: It is expected that strong winds persist today in the center and north of the national territory generated by the high pressure system associated with cold surge, with a tendency to gradually decrease over the course of this Wednesday.

Specifically for Tuesday, windy conditions will continue in the North Pacific, Central Valley and mountain ranges, with maximum gusts between 50-75 km / h in the lower parts and between 75-90 km / h for the north of Guanacaste and Mountains of the country. In addition, in the national territory it is kept under the moisture content, which favors a dry environment with very few cloud development and consequently very hot conditions throughout the day.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Extreme precautions due to strong winds and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution for boats by choppy sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
• Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
