Weather Warning

Favorable atmospheric instability for strong localized rainfall, in the Pacific, Central Valley and western sectors of the Caribbean

November 11, 2022
11.50 a.m.

Diagnosis: Atmospheric instability present at medium levels, added to local factors of warm temperatures and humidity incursions from both maritime sectors due to the Convergence Zone over the country, have caused rains since morning hours in coastal sectors of the Central Pacific. In addition, at this time there is a storm in the mountains of the North-West of the Central Valley. The amounts accumulated to date are less than 20 mm.

Forecast: During the afternoon showers are forecast accompanied by scattered electrical storms, in sectors of the east and center of the North Pacific, the Central Valley and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean and North Zone. The accumulated and estimated amounts will be between 40 – 60 mm with punctual maximums of 90 mm in 12 hours. During the night period, the probability of precipitation increases for coastal and surrounding sectors of the Central and South Pacific. The accumulated amounts are between 30 – 60 mm with punctual maximums of 70 mm.

Warning: High levels of soil saturation remain in the South Pacific and Cartago, due to the rains of recent days. Therefore, incidents such as small local floods and landslides through oversaturated soils are possible.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

Caution for sewage saturation and possible flash floods.

Prevention before an electrical storm and seek shelter in a safe place in case of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
