March 14, 2022
6:00 pm

Diagnosis: Unstable conditions in the local atmosphere, high moisture content, coupled with weak trade winds, have favored afternoon rains and downpours both in the Pacific and Central Valley regions, as well as to the west of the Caribbean regions and towards the center of the Zone North. Until now, they have been registered, in periods of 12 hours: for the Pacific regions accumulated between 10-40 mm with punctual maximums of up to 60 mm, in the Central Valley accumulated between 20-40 mm, with maximums located between 50-70mm. On the other hand, by the end of the afternoon, there are now precipitations to the west of the Caribbean regions and to the center of the North Zone, with accumulated amounts between 10 – 30 mm with punctual maximums of 60 mm.

Forecast: Due to local instability, it is estimated that rains of variable intensity will continue to the west of the Caribbean and the North Zone, with amounts between 20 – 40 mm with punctual maximums of up to 50 mm. They decrease towards the first 3 hours of the night. For the South Pacific regions, isolated downpours accompanied by electrical storms will continue for the first 3 hours of the night, moving to the west, with estimated amounts between 15 - 25 mm with punctual maximums of 40 mm. The coastal sectors of the Nicoya Peninsula will maintain occasional showers towards the early hours of the night, with amounts between 20 - 40 mm in the next 3 hours. In the case of the Central Valley, mainly light rains will remain, with accumulated amounts of less than 20 mm, and towards the first 3 hours of the night.

Warning: Presence of soils with a higher percentage of saturation due to the rains of the last days, are for mountainous sectors of the South Pacific, towards the southeast of the Central Pacific and in the surroundings of Golfo Dulce.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution for sewer saturation and possible flash floods.

• Prevention before electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
