Weather Warning

Showers and thunderstorm this afternoon

March 16, 2023.
10.00 a.m.

Discussion: The entry of sea breezes from the Pacific Ocean together with the warm morning temperatures will generate cloudiness in the afternoon and, in turn, isolated downpours and electrical storms.

Forecast: The strongest rainy activity will manifest in the Central and South Pacific regions and will be accompanied by electrical storms, estimated to be accumulated between 25-60 mm in periods of 6 hours. For its part, in the Central Valley (particularly the center and west), the Nicoya Peninsula and the mountains of the North Zone, isolated moderate rains are expected, amounts between 10-30 mm in periods of 6 hours.

The precipitations will extend to the first hours of the night, especially on the Pacific coasts.

Warning: Special attention in the South Pacific, Central Pacific, sectors bordering the mountains of the North Zone and the western sector of the Central Valley as they present considerable soil saturation due to the rains of recent days.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution for sewer saturation and possible flash floods.
  • Prevention against electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in case of appearing or perceiving strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
