Weather Warning
The accelerated trade winds remain for this Tuesday
March 12, 2024
09:30 a.m.
Diagnosis: The presence of high atmospheric pressure values in the Caribbean Sea keeps the trade winds accelerated for this Tuesday in our country. So far there are records of gusts between 40 - 60 km/h in the Central Valley and low parts of the North Pacific, while for the mountainous parts values of up to 75 - 85 km/h are recorded (V. Orosi and Bagaces ). In addition, the entry of humidity over the Caribbean regions and part of the Northern Zone has generated variable rains with accumulated between 10 - 40 mm with maximums of up to 60 mm (Matina), this in the last 12 hours.
Forecast: The windy pattern and occasional strong gusts will continue this Tuesday in the center and north of the national territory. Gusts between 40 - 60 km/h are forecast to continue for the Central Valley and lower sectors of Guanacaste, as well as gusts between 70 - 80 km/h for the north of Guanacaste and over the mountains.
Cloudiness will remain in the morning period, but gradually decreasing with the presence of partial clouds in the afternoon. Regarding the rains, these will also decrease during the morning, maintaining the probability of drizzles over the mountains. The accumulated will be between 5 – 30 mm in periods of 12 hours.
Regarding maximum temperatures, these will be lower compared to those presented the previous week, especially in the sectors where the trade wind is accelerated and for sectors of the Caribbean where cloud cover remains during periods of the day. However, in low sectors of the Pacific and near the coasts, high temperatures will always occur.
Warning: Special attention for occasional strong gusts of wind in the North Pacific and the Central Valley.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and northern Central Pacific.
• Avoid burning of all types, as they can get out of control.
