Weather Warning

Heavy downpours and thunderstorm this afternoon

September 15, 2021
10.55 a.m.

Discussion: The little cloudiness present in the first hours of the day allowed the rapid rise in temperatures, which added to the entry of humidity and the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, will cause cloudy developments this afternoon generating isolated but strong showers accompanied by electrical storm in the different regions of the country.

Forecast: During this afternoon and first hours of the night, heavy rains and downpours are estimated in isolation accompanied by an electrical storm in the North Pacific, mountains of the Central and South Pacific, the North Zone and the Central Valley, accumulated between 10 - 60 are expected. mm and maximums of 75 mm in periods of 6 hours. On the other hand, in the Caribbean, the rains will be limited to the mountainous sectors, amounts between 10-30 mm in periods of 6 hours.

Warning: Soil saturation levels continue to be high in the northern and southern parts of the North Pacific, North Zone and to a lesser extent in the Central Valley, a situation that in the presence of rain can generate a rapid increase in river flow. Caution in the high parts before the imminence of landslides.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution for sewer saturation and possible flash floods in the North Zone, Pacific and Central Valley.
  • Prevention against thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind occurring or perceived near the storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
