Aviso Meteorológico-IMN-160719-Mañana lluviosa en el Caribe y Zona Norte
Rainy morning in the Caribbean and North Zone
July 16, 2019
Diagnosis: Dynamic atmospheric factors favored the formation of a large-scale cloud nucleus on the Caribbean Sea, it moves in a northwest direction and has caused cloudy conditions in a large part of the country, as well as isolated rains mainly on the Caribbean side.
Forecast: Variable cloudiness conditions with isolated rainfall of varying intensity and localized storm are expected for the Caribbean regions in the remainder of the morning. In the Southern Caribbean, amounts between 20-40 mm are foreseen with possible higher quantities locally, especially near the coastal zone. For the North Caribbean, less intense activity is predicted with amounts between 1-10 mm. In addition, rains can reach the east and center of the central valley in the form of showers with amounts between 1-3 mm.By the afternoon the rains will be distributed in an isolated manner in the Pacific and Central Valley regions, particularly the Nicoya Peninsula, mountainous areas of the Central and South Pacific and the northwest part of the Central Valley may present a localized thunderstorm. The amounts for these regions are estimated between 10-40 mm.
For the mountainous parts of the Caribbean and Northern Zone regions, dispersed rains with amounts between 15-30 mm are possible, particularly in the North Zone there may be showers with higher amounts locally. On the other hand, the tropical wave # 15 will be entering the country during the night of this Tuesday and early Wednesday, situation that will reinforce the precipitations on the country in the night period.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas with vulnerability to flooding due to saturation of sewers, increased flow in rivers and streams and sectors with high propensity to landslide, especially in the mountains of the North and North Caribbean.
- Shelter in a safe place in case of listening to thunderstorm or perceive strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible fall of tree branches, power lines among others.
- There is possibility of intense winds and occasional gusts of wind.
