Windy conditions in the country this Tuesday

7 de abril de 2020.
9:30 am

Diagnosis: An increase in atmospheric pressure over the Caribbean Sea generates windy conditions over the country. During the first hours of this morning, the most intense gusts in the Central Valley reach 65 km / h in San José, 50 km / h in Alajuela and 60 km / h in Pavas, while in the Guanacaste area they reach 61 km / h in Santa Rosa and 85 km / h in La Cruz. In addition, the accelerated trade wind has favored the entrance of humidity from the maritime zone causing intermittent rains of intensity between weak and moderate in the Caribbean slope, the maximum accumulated recorded does not exceed 25 mm.

Forecast: Throughout this day the strong wind will continue in the center and north of the country with maximum gusts in the range of 80 -100 km / h in the mountainous areas and northern Guanacaste and between 50-70 km / h for the Central Valley and lower Guanacaste.

Regarding rainfall, isolated showers and drizzles are expected during the morning and night of this Tuesday for the Caribbean side, especially near the mountainous regions. Occasional afternoon rains can occur in the Central and South Pacific regions, as well as light drizzles near mountainous areas in the Central Valley, mainly in the eastern area. The maximum accumulations are estimated between 10-40 mm.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •     Take precautions for strong winds and their possible damage to roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country (national parks, volcanoes).
  •     Caution for boats by rough sea and very strong waves in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya, the Caribbean Sea, as well as air navigation due to turbulence over the mountainous sectors.
  •     Avoid burning of all kinds as they can get out of control.
