Rain during the night of this Saturday

Diagnosis: A high humidity content in conjunction with a low pressure system located over the Caribbean Sea generates unstable conditions in Central America. These factors favor the activity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone. During the course of the day, low to moderate intensity rains have occurred in the South Pacific, North Pacific, Central Valley and Northern Zone, maximum amounts between 15 – 50 mm.

Forecast: For the night of this Saturday and early Sunday morning, rain showers are expected in the North Pacific and Northern Zone. Amounts between 20 - 60 mm and possible maximums located between 60 - 90 mm.

Isolated precipitation is expected for the rest of the regions, with localized maximum amounts of 10 - 30 mm.

In addition, possible development of fog banks is forecast in the Central Valley and mountainous regions during the night.

Warning: Soil saturation with high percentages due to the rains of recent days continues over the mountains of the country, the Northern Zone (Sarapiquí) and the North Pacific.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
